When was the last time you asked for directions when traveling? If you are a female, it probably occurred very recently. If you are a male, you may not have asked for directions since Reagan was in office. One of the greatest inventions in the last 15 years has been GPS systems for use in our cars. An even better invention has been the GPS app for our smartphones. Now we can always know how to get somewhere. I have even used the GPS on my smartphone while walking to find a specific location. Now there is no excuse to be lost.
Directions For Life
Even when we miss a specified turn, a GPS unit will redirect us to get back on track. I cannot tell you how many times I have been on trips and have missed a turn or even missed a junction for a highway. At times the screen looks like a scattered montage of neon spaghetti. Then a pre-programmed voice, acting like a therapist, soothes the fury and I eventually get back on track. The real upside is that I never get completely lost and can always rely on the GPS to get me where I’m going.
May I Be Your Guide
God can guide us in our lives and make sure we always arrive at our destinations. We have something far better than Siri, Alexa, Cortana or even Watson. We have the Holy Spirit, guiding us along the straight and narrow paths and the winding roads of life. The ultimate help when we are seeking direction. Have you ever dwelt on a moment in your life when you felt you missed an opportunity? Be encouraged today because the moment we miss a turn, our spiritual GPS systems begin to recalibrate. Giving us another route that will get us to our destination.
“…I watch my step, avoiding the ditches and ruts of evil so I can spend all my time keeping your Word. I never make detours from the route you laid out; you gave me such good directions. Your words are so choice, so tasty; I prefer them to the best home cooking. With your instruction, I understand life; that’s why I hate false propaganda.”
Psalm 119:97–104 MSG
Follow The Creator
Who turns on a GPS only to ignore the directions and still try to find an unknown destination by themselves? We first recognize the authority of the GPS and listen to the directions as they are given, even when some of them seem last minute. How much more then should we be acknowledging God’s authority in our lives and following His directions. The Creator certainly knows a thing or two about the creation and how to guide us to destinations unknown.
